IMSA Traffic Signal Technician III Field
Target Audience: Those who are knowledgeable of traffic signal technologies and operations.
General Description: The IMSA Traffic Signal Sr. Field Technician III Certification is designed to test an individual’s knowledge and skills of advanced traffic signal technologies used in the industry. Students wishing to acquire this certification should have knowledge of the following: M.U.T.C.D. (current edition), understanding of basic electronics and electrical standards in the National Electrical Code and/or Canadian Electrical Code, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), ITE – Traffic Control Devices Handbook (current edition), NEMA Standards TS1/TS2, CalTrans Standards 170/2070, various traffic detection methods (acoustic, microwave, radar, loops, etc.)
lightning and grounding protection devices, traffic signal preemption devices and data communications methods (copper, fiber optic, wireless, etc.).
Prerequisite(s):
In Florida – Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control or higher (formerly Maintenance of Traffic); Outside of FL – IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certification
Current IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician II
Five years of experience is required in the field of traffic signal operations
